Bike MS: Los Angeles Coastal Challenge 2024

Once again, the VELO is supporting our fellow member Vito Altieri who’s wife and daughter have been battling with MS.

From Vito:

“Last year we had 10 Velo guys cross the finish line along with your help and the Ram Cheerleaders, we raised $8,550 to fight MS and I was made “Rookie of the Year” for Bike MS!

 As mentioned prior both my wife and my daughter have MS and are doing pretty well compared to many individuals. 23 years ago when my wife was diagnosed with MS there were only 3 drugs on the market now 25. Lucky to say 2 months ago my wife came off of her drugs which are so ridiculously expensive. 12 shots a month costs our insurance company $15,000.00!!!  Luckily I have insurance but this is what many people face everyday along with the dreaded disease. The money raised helps with research, buying bikes for mobility challenged, paying for medicines, etc.

If you are going to ride please register with the link below ASAP. Then on the Bike MS website, click on the “Join Our Team” button and then to contribute click on “Donate to this Team.”

Last year we were new and really didn’t understand the ins and outs of Bike MS. Everyone who rides must register and each rider must raise $350.00 to ride. The Velo has graciously given a $750.00 donation and I would ask the if you want to ride to at least pitch in a minimum $100.00 if at all possible. With the additional donations I bring in we should more than cover it!

• The ride is June 1st.
• All ride details (route, SAG info, etc.) can be found here.
• NOTE: The SC VELO club will be riding an alternate 100 mile route (Santa Monica>Ventura) as a group. This route will still be able to take advantage of all SAG points.
• Transportation (buses) will be available to bring you and your bike back to the parking lot in Santa Monica. Also available are free vouchers to ride the Metrolink from Ventura to Santa Clarita, depending what time you can/want to make it back – example schedule here.
• Exclusive to SC VELO club members is code “FREERIDE24” which will waive registration fees. You must be an SC VELO member to take advantage of this code. Not a member? SIGN UP HERE!
• We request that you donate at least $100, if possible, if you plan on riding. Regardless, we greatly appreciate any and all donations from everyone.
• Further communication about the VELO’s participation will go out in the upcoming weeks. We encourage all members and non-members to register and donate!
