DESCRIPTION:Once again\, the VELO is supporting our fellow member Vito Altieri who’s wife and daughter have been battling with MS. \nFrom Vito:\n\n“Last year we had 10 Velo guys cross the finish line along with your help and the Ram Cheerleaders\, we raised $8\,550 to fight MS and I was made “Rookie of the Year” for Bike MS! \n As mentioned prior both my wife and my daughter have MS and are doing pretty well compared to many individuals. 23 years ago when my wife was diagnosed with MS there were only 3 drugs on the market now 25. Lucky to say 2 months ago my wife came off of her drugs which are so ridiculously expensive. 12 shots a month costs our insurance company $15\,000.00!!!  Luckily I have insurance but this is what many people face everyday along with the dreaded disease. The money raised helps with research\, buying bikes for mobility challenged\, paying for medicines\, etc. \nIf you are going to ride please register with the link below ASAP. Then on the Bike MS website\, click on the “Join Our Team” button and then to contribute click on “Donate to this Team.” \nLast year we were new and really didn’t understand the ins and outs of Bike MS. Everyone who rides must register and each rider must raise $350.00 to ride. The Velo has graciously given a $750.00 donation and I would ask the if you want to ride to at least pitch in a minimum $100.00 if at all possible. With the additional donations I bring in we should more than cover it! \nThank you and I very much appreciate all your support. Vito.” \n\nThe ride is June 1st.\nAll ride details (route\, SAG info\, etc.) can be found here.\nNOTE: The SC VELO club will be riding an alternate 100 mile route (Santa Monica>Ventura) as a group. This route will still be able to take advantage of all SAG points.\nTransportation (buses) will be available to bring you and your bike back to the parking lot in Santa Monica. Also available are free vouchers to ride the Metrolink from Ventura to Santa Clarita\, depending what time you can/want to make it back – example schedule here.\nExclusive to SC VELO club members is code “FREERIDE24” which will waive registration fees. You must be an SC VELO member to take advantage of this code. Not a member? SIGN UP HERE!\nWe request that you donate at least $100\, if possible\, if you plan on riding. SUMMARY:Remote Ride - MS Ride Work Up - Ventura to Santa Barbara and Back
DESCRIPTION:Roll at 0800. This will be a work up for the club riding the MS ride June 1. We’ll meet at the clock tower parking lot in Ventura. Roll out the coast bike path eventually hitting Rincon Beach. We’ll make a couple of rights and cut across Gobernador Canyon Road. This time we’ll skip Toro Canyon and take the cut through in Summerland that the old Cool Breeze used to use. Make the obligatory picture stop on Park Lane. Head up to East Mountain Road to travel across to Santa Barbara. Refuel stop at HandleBar Coffee. Onto and through Hope Ranch. Once we loop through Hope Ranch\, we’ll come back to Santa Barbara along the coast and head back to Ventura all along the coast . We’ll have several regroups and make another quick refuel stop in Summerland on the way back. We’ll hug the coast all the way back to Ventura. Hope to see you there! Should be a fun one! DESCRIPTION:Since it will be cooler this Saturday\, let’s meet at 8am in the parking lot with our friends in CBS to start our ride. We’ll roll out together\, heading east on Magic Mountain Parkway to The Old Road\, then turn north on the 126 via Commerce Center Drive and Franklin Parkway. Let’s watch out for each other by pointing out any road hazards along the way. We’ll break into smaller groups once we get to Guiberson Road to ride safely. At the end of Guiberson\, we’ll regroup before climbing Grimes Canyon. After regrouping at the top\, we’ll descend into Fillmore to refuel at the 76 station. Then it’s time to head west\, climbing up and over Spring Road to Los Angeles Avenue\, rolling through town to the base of the Santa Susana Pass. We’ll regroup one last time at the summit before enjoying the downhill through Chatsworth. We’ll take Rinaldi south to Balboa and ride north back to Foothill Blvd\, then head west on Sierra Highway and complete the loop. Tired but triumphant\, we’ll meet up with friends afterwards this Saturday for coffee or Jamba Juice to celebrate a great ride.
